The program is designed to schedule your clinical capstone as your final course in the program. The clinical capstone can occur in any setting where capstone students are able to engage in quality improvement while maintaining the professional standards of nursing under the guidance of a preceptor. Clinical capstones consist of 60 hours of dedicated work on the quality improvement project. Students are encouraged to complete their clinical capstone hours within the setting in which they are currently employed.
CCNE requires that all students in RN- BSN programs have a clinical component to their degree program to enable them to apply and integrate new knowledge in a clinical setting. Most of our RN to BSN students work full time and need to find a way to complete the required 60 clinical project hours. UWM has a pretty generous transfer policy, but you will be required to complete at least 30 credits at the university.
All coursework is asynchronous, with no live classes. Keep in mind that BSN students are expected to find a qualified preceptor in their own workplace or community setting for the practicum component of their capstone course. Wisconsin Community Foundations will also offer scholarships for university education. Here are just a couple of examples:.
Find your local Community Foundation in Wisconsin and ask them about scholarship opportunities. You might also wish to investigate options from community non-profits and altruistic organizations. Are you currently working in a Wisconsin healthcare system or hospital? Be sure to ask your HR representative about education benefits. You may be eligible for tuition reimbursement, tuition discounts, fee waivers, and a whole lot more.
Some BSN courses may be taken concurrently with the associate degree courses. Contact an MATC advisor for information. Additional details about the program: Success in the program will depend on the ability to act ethically, communicate effectively, make evidence-based clinical decisions, minimize risk of harm, and use technology to manage data and support clinical decisions.
